Phase 3 ESSENCE trial: Semaglutide in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis
Journal:Essence Semaglutide
Published:

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) is the progressive form of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD).
Semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA), has been extensively studied across a broad spectrum of cardiometabolic disease.
ESSENCE is an ongoing phase 3 trial comparing once-weekly subcutaneous semaglutide 2.4 mg versus placebo in participants with biopsy-defined MASH and fibrosis stage 2 or 3.
Here, we report interim efficacy and safety* results from the first 800 patients who completed 72 weeks of treatment.
